New rules for travellers come into force

You can only travel within Canada and abroad on one condition.

On October 30, new measures went into effect banning unvaccinated passengers over the age of 12 from travelling by air, sea and rail both domestically and internationally.

A transition period is in effect until November 29, during which a negative COVID-19 test done no earlier than 72 hours before travel or a positive test done no later than 14 days and no earlier than 180 days before travel will also be accepted for travel along.

As of November 30, only fully vaccinated passengers will be allowed to travel. There will be very few exceptions where passengers will be allowed to travel without vaccination. To be able to travel in the future, Canadian residents must be vaccinated during this month.

"Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent COVID-19 from spreading further in Canada," said Transport Minister Omar Algabra. — Requiring vaccination of travellers and transport industry employees ensures that everyone who travels and works in the industry protects each other and keeps Canadians safe."

For foreigners who do not reside in Canada, the transition period will last longer. If a traveler enters the country after October 30, they will be able to fly back with a negative test for COVID-19 between now and February 28. The measures that will apply after that date have not yet been disclosed.

The remaining measures in effect at the border have not changed. Earlier, Canada announced that it was developing a single vaccination passport.
