New immigration program to Canada with low requirements

New immigration program to Canada with low requirements

There is another way to move to Canada. It is suitable for people with poor English and school education.

Canada has already launched several new immigration pathways over the course of this year, illustrating how much it is committed to meeting its plan to accept 401,000 newcomers in 2021.

The program in question is not new, but the evaluation criteria have changed, becoming clearer and more transparent. This flow for in-demand professionals to the province of Ontario, which is where most immigrants go. In April of this year, the Ontario government announced a new assessment system called Expression of Interest.

The system already works for other flows to Ontario: for skilled professionals and graduates of Canadian universities. This time, people from working professions were lucky; they are in great demand in the province. I, for example, have not been able to find a specialist to make an office door at home for a long time, because everyone has a lot of orders.

Program requirements

A new stream works for those who want to live in Ontario. If you have heard of cities like Toronto and Ottawa and want to live in them, this option is right for you.

Candidates with one of 23 occupations can apply. Mostly working professions, the list includes sanitation workers, care workers, truck drivers, assemblers, farm workers, harvesters, butchers, operators of different machines and machines, seamstresses, finishers and other professions.

The new immigration program is very different from the other, older programs in that the demand for professions depends on where you want to live. It is more of a disadvantage. Some professions can immigrate to any city in Ontario and some professions can only immigrate to places outside of the Greater Toronto Area — Toronto and its suburbs. So be careful.

Pros and cons of the program

Two advantages of the stream are that school education and language proficiency at level 4 on the Canadian scale CLB are sufficient to apply. This can be equated to A2-B1, that is, a basic level. If you learned English at school, you can get to the right level in six months to a year.

You will need to get a job offer and work in Ontario for 9 months on a work visa to get permanent residency. This is a disadvantage, but do not be afraid of it.

Candidate selection

Selections will take place through Ontario's new Expression of Interest system. It's quite convoluted, but there aren't many criteria for the flow of in-demand professionals. The level and type of profession will be assessed using the Canadian classifier NOC. The level indicates how skilled the profession is, and the type indicates the field of work.

Then we look at job offers in Ontario: What kind of wages are offered and where are the employers located? It is better to look for a job outside of the Greater Toronto Area to get more points. And work experience in Ontario: How much the candidate has earned, what profession and how long they have worked before applying. Although the requirements say that you need to work for 9 months, they only give points to people who have been working for a year or longer. It is still unknown how many points are needed, because as of 1 July there were no selections with the new system for this stream.

In the flow of in-demand professionals, it does not matter whether you graduated from school or university. No points are awarded in this category. This is a very big difference compared to the Express Entry system. What matters is the job offer, salary and Canadian work experience.

Job Search Ontario

Why shouldn't you be afraid of having to find a job? Many people probably think it is almost impossible. But the occupations in this stream are in demand, which means there is a shortage of such professionals in Ontario. Canadians don't want to work in factories, farms or other such places. If the province didn't need workers from abroad, there wouldn't be such an immigration program. So everything is real, you just need to put together a resume and start looking.
