Immigration to Alberta through the Alberta Opportunity Stream

If you are currently in Alberta with a work permit, you can apply for permanent residency under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

Applications for the stream are temporarily not accepted

The Alberta Opportunity Stream allows candidates with temporary resident status and a Canadian work permit to obtain permanent residency.

Eligibility

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • work in Alberta at the time of application;
  • have at least a high school education;
  • have 1 year of work experience within the last 18 months in Alberta or 2 years within the last 30 months outside Alberta (in Canada or abroad);
  • demonstrate English or French language skills at the level:
    • CLB 5 for TEER 0, 1, 2, and 3 occupations in the NOC classification;
    • CLB 4 for TEER 4 and 5 occupations in the NOC classification;
    • CLB 7 for nurse aides and orderlies.

Canadian university and college graduates who hold a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) must have at least 6 months of work experience in Alberta in the last 18 months, and the current place of work must be consistent with their education.
