New Fanshawe@ILAC training program for those who already have a medical degree
We tell you about the program, admission requirements and job prospects.
Recently, Fanshawe Toronto@ILAC College announced the launch of 2 new study programs: Chronic Disease Management and Construction Project Management. And each of them is worth talking about in more detail. We'll talk about "Construction Project Management" in a separate article, but in this one, we'll focus on "Chronic Disease Management".
Chronic disease management
"Chronic Disease Management" is a postgraduate program that will last one year. The expected cost is CAD 15,000 (excluding ancillary fees). Graduates can expect to receive a post-graduation work permit for 1 year.
Fanshawe specifically notes that this program is designed for international students. Graduates of the Chronic Disease Management program will work with older adults with chronic diseases and their families in healthcare facilities or at home.
During their studies, students will deepen their knowledge of chronic deseases, as well as the impact of these illnesses on a person's need for care. Graduates of this program will be able to perform nursing roles in facilities for people with chronic illnesses, psychological problems and in nursing homes.
Employment prospects
Those who will graduate from the Chronic Disease Management program will have no problem finding employment. There is a medical shortage in Canada, which is being publicized at the national level. There are problems with chronic diseases as well. Statistics show that 3 out of 5 Canadians over the age of 20 have at least one chronic disease. Many of these people need constant help, so the demand for chronic disease specialists in Canada is high.
And there is a need for these health care workers in Ontario. Ontario is home to more than 3 million people over the age of 65. This is the fastest growing demographic in the province. There are 66,000 Ontario residents in nursing homes. And all of these people would benefit from the help of a health care professional with an in-depth knowledge of chronic disease.
2 years of study = 3 years of PGWP
Another advantage of the Chronic Disease Management course is that it combines well with other Fanshawe Toronto@ILAC medical programs. For example, Palliative Care or Gerontology. By completing 2 of these one-year programs, you will not only gain in-depth, versatile knowledge and professional skills, but you will also be eligible for a 3-year work permit. That is, you study only for 2 years, but you get a work permit for 3 years, although as a rule PGWP can be obtained for a period equal to the period of study.

Chronic Disease Management is a postgraduate program, so you must be a higher education institution graduate to enroll in it. Since the program is in the medical field, you must also have an undergraduate degree in healthcare. Higher education means a completed diploma program (2-3 years) or a bachelor's degree.
You will also need to prove your English language skills by submitting an IELTS certificate. The required average score is 6.5 and none of the test components (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) must be scored below 6.0.
Admission without English
Because Fanshawe has a partnership with ILAC, you do not have to take IELTS to get into college. Instead, you can take ILAC's University Pathway language program. This program will improve your English level and also provide you with a certificate that shows your language proficiency. This can be presented to the college instead of an IELTS certificate. In addition to Fanshawe College, ILAC works with dozens of institutions across Canada, so you can get into more than just Fanshawe by completing the Pathway program.
If you are interested in the Pathway program at ILAC or want to improve your English, you can sign up for online lessons. Since we are partners with ILAC, you get a 30% discount when you enroll through us.
But ILAC is not limited to online learning. If you have the ability or desire to study English in Canada, ILAC's Toronto and Vancouver campuses are at your service. Make an appointment with us for a education consultation and we will be happy to help you go to ILAC.
