Canada among big countries
G7 Summit
Last week in Hiroshima concluded a meeting of world leaders known as the G7 Summit. Canada, the United States, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, and the United Kingdom met for the 49th time.
As always, global leaders of tomorrow discussed the challenges of our time and set new benchmarks. As the most developed and influential countries, the G7 members to some extent determine the development of the world and civilization.
G7 leaders discussed strengthening global economic security, adhering to the United Nations (UN) Charter, and working in partnership with emerging economies and developing countries to address common challenges.
Today's global challenges – wars, climate change, food shortages, and the threat of nuclear war – require urgent solutions and close international cooperation.
The G7 countries remained committed to their goals:
- Provide support to Ukraine.
- Not proliferate nuclear weapons.
- Strengthen collaboration with partners around the world to build a clean energy economy of the future that reduces poverty and promotes prosperity for all.
- Aim for minimal carbon dioxide emissions for an environmentally sustainable future.
- Help keep the peace and support the oppressed around the globe.
In his speech Trudeau touched the topics of Russia, Iranian nuclear program, North Korea clean energy and food issues.
Canada last held the G7 presidency in 2018. Italy will host partners in 2024 and then again Canada in 2025.
