Canadian provinces announce new support measures for Ukrainians

Some regions are more interested in the influx of new immigrants than others.

The governments of Manitoba and British Columbia have clarified what services for newly arrived immigrants will be available to Ukrainians.

Manitoba will open a reception center near Winnipeg's James Armstrong Richardson International Airport. It will temporarily house Ukrainians, provide them with food and medical services, and coordinate their future activities.

British Columbia is opening up access to a network of social services for Ukrainians through the service bc211. It is a navigator for organizations that provide assistance to different groups of people, and when you call the 211 hotline, you can get advice in more than 150 languages.

The B.C. government also announced additional support measures:

  • access to employment and skills training through 102 WorkBCs;
  • free extracurricular activities for students if parents cannot pay for them yet;
  • free psychological services for children, youth and their parents;
  • emergency grants for higher education and free campus housing for those arriving on the Canada-Ukraine Emergency Entry Permit.
