Long-awaited Express Entry draw for provincial program candidates

Long-awaited Express Entry draw for provincial program candidates

The passing score has dropped dramatically.

On May 10, Canada held a new draw in the Express Entry system for candidates with provincial nominations. The last time such a drawing was two months ago.

Invitations were extended to 589 people who scored 691 or higher on the Comprehensive Ranking System. This is the lowest passing score in the selections for provincial program candidates over the past year. The previous such drawing was held on March 1, and the minimum score was 748.

Express Entry is the system Canada uses to select candidates for federal immigration programs:

A provincial nomination automatically adds 600 points to candidates. This means that without the nomination, invited applicants only needed to score 91 points for age, education, work experience, language skills, and other factors. The nomination is given to those who after registering in Express Entry, applied for one of the provincial immigration programs and received an invitation.
