The Winnipeg brothers were the songwriters of this year's Grammy-winning song

The Winnipeg brothers were the songwriters of this year

Brothers Joey and David Landreth's band, The Bros. Landreth recorded "Made Up Mind" back in 2013, and 10 years later its cover version, performed by Bonnie Raitt, won a Grammy.

When American country-rock legend Bonnie Raitt won a Grammy last week for her single "Made Up Mind," she gave an emotional speech thanking a certain Landreth Brothers for that "awesome" song.

It turned out that the Landreth brothers were natives of Winnipeg, the capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba. In the early 2010s, Joey and David Landreth formed a country-rock band called The Bros. Landreth and have since released three albums and two EPs. Joey Landreth, the older of the brothers, has also been successful as a solo folk singer.

The track "Made Up Mind," for which Bonnie Raitt, 73, won one of the world's top music awards, is on The Bros. Landreth's "Let It Lie." For that record, by the way, the brothers won a Juno Award, the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy.

"Oh man! I'm in seventh heaven, I tell you! This is excellent news! — David Landreth couldn't contain his emotions on the air of a Manitoba radio station when he heard that his song had won such a prestigious award. — The journey this song has taken is mind-blowing, surreal and beautiful!"

The Landreth Brothers met the legendary Bonnie Raitt at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 2014. The acquaintance turned into a friendship, the friendship into a creative collaboration, which resulted in the brothers giving Raitt their song. Her version of "Made Up Mind" was released last February and became the lead single for her new album, Just Like That.
