Canadian province eliminated immigration processing fees

On April 13, 2022, the province of Newfoundland and Labrador made applications for the Atlantic Immigration Program and provincial immigration program free. The fee waiver applies to both skilled workers and entrepreneurs.

Newfoundland and Labrador expects to be a national leader in immigrant admissions and retention by 2026. The provincial government believes it provides "best-in-class" health care for international students: indeed, in Newfoundland and Labrador alone, international graduates continue to receive free health care for 90 days after graduation.

On its official website, the provincial government lists many other advantages that make it the best place to immigrate. But not all of its residents agree. For example, the Newfoundland and Labrador Coalition Against Racism calls for giving health insurance to all migrants, making no distinction by nationality or status.
