Applications are now open for nanny and caregiver programs
The government has announced the number of immigrants that will be accepted under the programs.
Canada has opened applications for immigration through the Nanny and Caregiver Programs. These are pilot programs that allow care workers to get permanent residency in Canada. In 2022, the Department of Immigration will accept 2,750 applications under each pilot, which means a total of 5,500 applicants can apply, not including their family members who, if approved, will immigrate with them.
To apply, you need to find a job as a nanny or caregiver for a Canadian family. The good news is that families hire foreign caregivers in a simplified way. Candidates must meet a number of requirements in addition to a job offer:
- have the skills and experience to do the job;
- pass a language test in English or French at least level 5 on the CLB scale;
- have at least one year of post-secondary education;
- plan to live and work outside the province of Quebec.
A special feature of the nanny and caregiver programs is that candidates apply for both a work visa and permanent residency at the same time, but do not receive permanent residency until after two years in Canada.
