Unexpectedly few candidates selected in the new Express Entry selection

The passing score went up dramatically.

On August 5, Canada sent 3,000 invitations to candidates registered with Express Entry and participating in the immigration program for specialists with experience in Canada.

The minimum passing score on the complex ranking system was 404. This is 47 points higher than in the previous selection, which took place on July 22. Thus, the new selection interrupted the series of draws with record-low scores.

The draw among professionals with Canadian experience took place the day after Express Entry selection for provincial immigration program participants.

Under a new immigration plan for 2021-2023, Canada aims to admit about 110,000 immigrants annually through Express Entry. For 2021, more than 102,300 invitations have already been issued.

Recent selections show that Canada continues to give priority to immigration applicants who are already in the country or who are nominated by the provinces, while travel restrictions continue to apply.
