Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot: Timmins, Ontario
Those wishing to immigrate to Canada can apply for permanent residency in the municipality of Timmins.

The town of Timmins (province of Ontario), which is 680 km from Toronto, participates in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot created to connect foreign workers with Canadian employers from communities experiencing labour shortages.
Applicants must receive a community recommendation. For this, you must meet the requirements of the immigration program and the requirements of the town where you plan to move.
Federal requirements
All applicants interested in applying for a recommendation from Timmins must meet the requirements of the federal government:
- 1 year of work experience within the last 3 years;
- high school education;
- language proficiency at the level appropriate to the profession;
- sufficient amount of money;
- job offer in a community.
Timmins community requirements
You must score a minimum of 65 points for your application to be considered (75 if you received a job offer as a retail manager or a supervisor in the food service industry). The maximum number of points is 200. Points are awarded as follows:

Priority and excluded occupations
Timmins first invites applicants who have received a job offer in one of the priority occupations. The commission reserves the right to select or not select applicants whose occupations are not listed and will send no more than 20 such invitations per year.
The list of priority occupations includes:
- healthcare professionals;
- IT workers;
- mechanics;
- carpenters;
- builders;
- plumbing;
- truck drivers;
- miners;
- machine operators;
- auditors and accountants;
- administrative service managers;
- managers in the catering industry.

Representatives of some professions cannot immigrate to the community. Applications from such candidates may be considered on an exceptional basis if the employer has offered them a wage of more than $16.50 CAD per hour:
- retail salespersons;
- hosts/hostesses;
- bartenders;
- food and beverage servers;
- cashiers;
- store shelf stockers;
- kitchen helpers;
- cooks.
