Immigration to Manitoba Through The Foreign Skilled Worker Stream

The Skilled Workers Overseas stream of Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program is designed for those with strong ties to the province, such as employment, education, a relative or friend living in Manitoba. Those who have received an invitation from the provincial program organizers can also apply for immigration.

Requirements

The Skilled Workers Overseas stream doesn't have strict requirements for age, language, work experience, education, etc. To apply, you need to:

• meet one of the three categories:
  • Manitoba support;
  • Manitoba experience;
  • Manitoba invitation;
• score at least 60 out of 100 points in the stream's assessment system (see below).

Categories

Each category has its own features:

Manitoba Support. This category is for candidates who have a friend or relative in the province. This person must be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada and have lived in Manitoba for at least a year.

Manitoba Experience. This category requires you to have worked for a provincial employer for at least 6 months or to have graduated from a higher education institution in the province.

Invitation from Manitoba. To qualify for this category, you must receive an invitation from provincial representatives at an information session or job fair. Manitoba holds such events from time to time; you can find out about them here.

Another way to participate in the "Invitation from Manitoba" category is to make an exploratory visit to the province. For this, the candidate must meet additional requirements:

• be between 21 and 45 years old;
• have no connections to other Canadian provinces;
• be a specialist that Manitoba employers might be interested in;
• provide proof of completing at least a 1-year academic program;
• have at least 2 years of work experience in the last 5 years and show the ability to find work in the same field in Manitoba;
• provide language test results with a minimum score of 5 on the CLB scale (intermediate level).

Candidate Assessment System

To be considered, candidates must score at least 60 out of 100 points based on the following criteria:

If you meet the requirements of one of the categories listed above and score 60 points, you are eligible to apply. However, after this, candidates are evaluated using another system — Manitoba's "Expression of Interest," where the passing scores can be quite high.
