Quebec improves conditions for immigrants with children
The province has become even more attractive to families, including those arriving on work or student visas.
Quebec is considered one of the most favourable provinces for families with children. There are several reasons for this: extra points for children in the immigration program, good child benefits, and affordable daycare.
The province recently announced a new law that allows children to qualify for free health insurance, including coverage for the purchase of prescription drugs. This applies to all children living in Quebec, regardless of the status of their parents. They can be children of foreign workers or students, children without legal status in Canada and children temporarily living in Quebec. The three-month "waiting period" during which new immigrants cannot use insurance is also being eliminated for children.
The only eligibility requirement is that the child must be present in the Province of Quebec for more than 6 months of the year.
