The Canadian government wants to bring a workforce to the Prairies

New organizations are opening there to help immigrants.

The Canadian Prairies are three provinces on the Great Plains: Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. It is one of the most important agricultural regions in the world.

On May 12, 2022, the Government of Canada announced investments in organizations to help new immigrants settle in these provinces. In total, more than $14 million CAD will be invested in 14 projects applying for grants in 2021.

The $4,244,506 CAD will go toward opening offices of the Resettlement Assistance Program in three cities:

  • Fort McMurray, Alberta;
  • Grand Prairie, Alberta;
  • Winkler, Manitoba.

These organizations help immigrants find temporary housing and fill out necessary paperwork, such as obtaining a social security number and opening a bank account. Sometimes they also help newcomers financially.
