Record Employment Levels Achieved in Saskatchewan

Economic growth and investments have led to the creation of 16,200 new jobs and a reduction in the unemployment rate to 5.6%.

According to the latest report from Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan's economy continues to grow rapidly, reaching a record high in employment. In May 2024, 16,200 new jobs were created, setting a new historical peak for the province. The unemployment rate in Saskatchewan also fell to 5.6%, the third lowest in the country and significantly below the national average of 6.2%.

"More people are working in Saskatchewan than ever before. The record job growth in our province is driven by unprecedented investments. Our government will continue to work with employers to create the workforce needed to meet the demands of Saskatchewan's fast-growing economy," said Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison.

Significant increases were seen in the professional, scientific, and technical sectors, which added 4,800 jobs (13.9%), as well as in the information, culture, and recreation sectors, which saw an increase of 4,000 jobs (20.9%). Education services also showed growth, with an additional 3,700 jobs (7.3%).

Saskatchewan's two largest cities, Regina and Saskatoon, also reached record employment levels. In Regina, employment increased by 7,200 jobs or 5.0% compared to last year, while Saskatoon saw an increase of 5,700 jobs or 2.9%.

Saskatchewan's economy is showing robust growth, providing new jobs and favorable conditions for the lives and work of its residents.
