New program at Georgian@ILAC: opportunity to study accounting in Toronto

Training will begin as early as the summer of 2024!

Georgian College@ILAC is the result of a collaboration between one of Canada's top colleges, Georgian College, and one of the top language schools in the world, ILAC. Thanks to it, students from all over the world can study Georgian College's sought-after academic programs on the language school's Toronto campus. Georgian@ILAC is growing rapidly. In October, the college opened a new campus. And this week, Georgian announced that a new program will be available next summer: Business — Accounting. Previously, this program was only available at the Georgian College campus in Barrie.

Accounting Program

"Business — Accounting" is a two-year diploma program that will provide students with knowledge of how businesses operate as well as a well-rounded accounting education that includes in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills. At the end of the course, the graduate will be able to:

  • Record financial transactions in accordance with Canadian accounting principles;
  • Prepare and present financial statements and other financial documents in accordance with Canadian accounting principles;
  • Prepare personal income tax returns, basic tax planning in accordance with Canadian laws and regulations;
  • Analyze the impact of economic variables, legislation, technology and other factors relevant to Canada on the organization's operations;
  • Analyze how business is structured, the interdependencies of business areas, and how these interdependencies affect financial performance;
  • Participate in making important decisions by applying fundamental management accounting concepts;
  • Think through the elements of internal business control and risk management;
  • Develop strategies to help business management make informed decisions regarding accounting, finance and taxation.

In short, studying on this program will teach you how to understand numbers in a way that will make a meaningful contribution to the success of a business or organization.

Prospects for graduates

By completing this program, a graduate will be able to obtain a postgraduate work permit for up to 2 years and find employment in the accounting department of a bank or other financial institution, government agency, public accounting firm, small business, tax preparation firm, financial planning firm, manufacturing company, non-profit organization, or self-employment.

A graduate can also continue their education and earn a Bachelor's degree in accounting by studying another 2 years at a university.

In order to enroll in the Business — Accounting program, you must prove the completion of the secondary have a grade of at least B in mathematics.

You also need to prove your knowledge of English. You can provide an IELTS certificate with an average score of 6.0 (none of the test components must be scored below 5.5) or a certificate from another language test:
