The province has gotten creative with its Halloween celebrations.

Halloween in today's world is usually limited to costumes, themed parties, decorations and horror movies. Cultural staff in Prince Edward Island have figured out how to make the end of October not only spooky, but also educational and entertaining.

The Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation has a number of events planned for the next two weeks. First, for the third time, the historic Beaconsfield House in Charlottetown will host a re-enactment of a Victorian-era séance. In previous years, tickets have sold out instantly — the immersive performance is an incredible success. This year's show runs on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until the end of October. It is based on events that really happened to the Peake family in this old house.

Several events are planned for October 29 and 30 at the Orwell Corner Historic Village. On the 29th afternoon, there will be a children's party where young event goers can learn more about the history of the area. Here's what museum and foundation coordinator Camellia Nguyen has to say about the event:

"Children will be treated to an enchanting trick-or-treating adventure through the charming village streets, collecting candies and treats from various village characters."

More in the village will include a potions class, wagon rides, listening to scary stories and learning blacksmithing.

And the next night, October 30, visitors will be given an adult scare: the event, called "Grave Night in the Village," will open with a hearse procession. It will be followed by a time of spooky stories, and the night will end with a screening of the movie "The Ghosts of Prince Edward Island." The movie documents the murder of Ann Beaton in Orwell River.
