The most reliable Canadian brands

The most reliable Canadian brands

According to last year's results, these brands are trusted the most in Canada.

Every year in Canada, the Victoria University School of Business ranks the brands Canadians trust most. A trusted brand's reputation has to be earned — it reflects how customers feel about the retailer, the quality of service and products, the fairness of prices, and other factors. We periodically write about the most trusted Canadian stores, because this information is very useful for immigrants: if Canadians choose these retailers, you too can trust them and buy quality goods at nice prices.

What does brand reliability consist of?

Of several factors. In complex scientific studies, scientists consider hundreds of indicators, but we will name just a few of the main ones.

  • Quality. Here everything is defined simply — everyone intuitively understands that quality food must be fresh, healthy, and tasty; quality clothing must be comfortable, durable, and beautiful. Fortunately, Canada is very strict about this, so the market pleases customers with good products. There are many federal regulators protecting consumer rights.
  • Responsibility and ethics. This includes many things: whether the brand treats its customers and employees well, whether it cheats on them, whether its production facilities do not harm the environment, etc. Canadians care about how big stores affect society and the environment. They only want to sponsor projects with a clear conscience.
  • Transparency. Buyers want manufacturers to be honest with them. This is especially important for products that come in direct contact with the body — food, cosmetics, clothing. People deserve to know what their food and clothing are made of and how it can affect their health. Responsible brands don't withhold information about ingredients.
  • Consistency. Good brands provide consistently good products. If today's bun from the store is bad, even though yesterday's batch was delicious, the brand is not trustworthy.
  • Caring. We all like to be taken care of and made our lives easier. Canadians like stores that try to make the process of choosing, buying, and paying as comfortable as possible.

What brands did Canadians trust in 2022?

There are many unusual ones among them, but there are also more understandable food or machinery manufacturers.

1. Canadian Automobile Association — a well-deserved winner

This non-profit organization won for the third year in a row: Canadians are very satisfied with the service, speed of work, and quality of service. This non-profit was founded in 1913. It now has a membership of 6 million Canadians. For a country with a population of 40 million, that's impressive — 1/8 of the population chooses the CAA. It provides its users with access to a wide range of automotive services, such as car towing, tire changes, towing, gasoline discounts, and many others. It also makes maps and travel guides.

For Canadian realities, the CAA's primacy is not surprising. Part of the country is occupied by mountains and forests, and it has a very harsh climate. Cars break down and wear out, and tires have to be changed often. An NPO that provides services to motorists is vital here.

2. BAND-AID

This company produces products for the treatment of wounds, cuts, and burns. Its most popular product is patches of different shapes, sizes, and qualities, such as cooling, warming, or antiseptic. But it also produces bandages, wipes, antiseptics, and even ointments. Canadians have been in awe of this company since childhood: they remember that BAND-AID will help with broken knees and cut fingers.

3. Costco

Every Canadian knows this store and regularly buys groceries, electronics, or clothes there. It is the largest retail store in the country, with many branches in different Canadian cities. Locals trust Costco — it's tasty, safe, and high quality, and also has a lot of nice prices, discounts, and promotions. The Canadian part of our team shops at this store, so we can recommend it wholeheartedly.

3. Lego

This seller of children's toys and constructor also took a respectable third place. In Canada, Lego parts are stepped on as often and painfully as in other countries, but the brand itself is loved and appreciated. It not only sells excellent constructors, which adults and children dream of but also treats its employees well — it is interesting and pleasant to work there.

3. Home Hardware

Simply put, for Canadians, this Ontario company is the domestic equivalent of IKEA. It sells furniture, home goods, storage systems, building materials, and much more. Canadians have a strong association between renovating a home and shopping at this store, which has more than 1,000 branches across the country.

4. Bose

It's an electronics manufacturer. You've probably seen their famous headphones advertised at least once. Canadians choose this brand for its durable and reliable products.

5. President's choice

It is a producer of beverages, and its most important product is instant coffee. It can be compared to Maxim coffee, the absolute market leader in South Korea. Canadians think simply: coffee means President's Choice.

6. Dyson

This brand needs no special introduction: every girl dreams about their hair dryer, and all owners of large apartments dream about their vacuum cleaners, which quickly and quietly clean huge areas. With a Canadian wage, this company's products are affordable, so Canadians buy their products a lot.

7. Interac

It is a payment system that has several products and technologies that make it easy to make transfers and send payments between accounts and cards of different banks. It was launched in 1984 and is one of the most popular payment systems in Canada. And the company is also known for protecting user data and accounts.

8. Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix

It is the same brand, but exists under two names, depending on whether it targets an English-speaking or francophone audience. It is the largest pharmacy chain in the country, selling prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins and supplements, grooming and decorative cosmetics, and other similar products.

9. MEC (Mountain Equipment Company)

Where in Canada would one go without a manufacturer of clothing, footwear, and equipment for active sports and mountaineering? The country is famous for its mountains and winter resorts, so a manufacturer of products to explore them is very popular. MEC is a cooperative, which means consumers can join to have access to additional benefits and discounts on products.
