How can an international student change a college or university?
One of the easiest ways to get to Canada is to get a student visa. But what to do if the chosen colledge is not suitable for various reasons?
Immigration regulations do not prohibit you from changing your educational establishment. After receiving a student visa and moving to Canada, you must fully comply with the conditions that were originally presented in the study permit.
International students must:
- be formally enrolled in college or university;
- attend classes for a specified period and successfully pass tests, exams, and other work;
- justify the reasons for changing the educational institution and obtaining a new permit.
If these parameters are successfully passed, then within 150 days the student must begin studying at a new college or university. After this period or if you do not meet the conditions, you are required to leave Canada.
Rules that a foreign student should know:
- Inform immigration officials of changes in institution and status. If it is reported that a student is not registered at a college, he or she will get the deportation and subsequently denial of any visa.
- Studying in "evening courses" does not contradict the conditions, but it also does not give a chance to get an open work permit after graduation.
- Academic leave is granted for no more than 150 days.
- If an international student wishes to stop studying in Canada for a period of time, he or she must notify immigration services and apply for a replacement student visa for a visitor's visa.
- When transferring from one college to another, a student can independently change the personal account on the official website the school number by entering the student identification number, as well as the start date of the new academic program.
- If the change of program takes place within the same educational institution, the international student may not report it to the migration services.
- If for some reason your study permit expires, you need to apply for an extension.
It is worth noting that Quebec has its rules of transition from one educational establishment to another, as the province has its own migration system.
