The reason why the December draw to Express Entry did not take place

On December 7, everyone was waiting for the next draw for qualified specialists. But it was not held because of a mistake.

The Express Entry system malfunctioned after a program update. The Minister of Immigration and Refugees confirmed that the processing of applications failed due to technical reasons.

The government is trying to appease disgruntled candidates and promises to fix the problem soon. The systemic problems arose after the transition to the new NOC 2021 occupational classification system. But details have not been disclosed.

Express Entry draws for all programs were resumed in July 2022 after a long break. The draw is supposed to take place every two weeks on Wednesdays. But, as you can see, it did not happen on December 7. The ministry has the right to reschedule the time and dates of the draw. There is no law which would determine the exact date and control the observance of the dates.

From July through November 2022, 11 drawings were held. In the last draw, 4,750 candidates received invitations.

On November 16, 2022, Immigration Canada officially switched from NOC 2016 to NOC 2021.
