Some Ontarians are waiting for a cash payment from the government

The amount will not be taxable.

This week, residents of Ontario can receive a CAIP payment outside of their income tax returns for the first time.

CAIP is a tax-free amount paid to individuals and families to offset the cost of federal pollution prices. Previously, residents had to request these funds separately by filing a return and receiving the payment once a year. Beginning in July 2022, the government decided to switch to quarterly payments.

Those who are residents of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or Ontario as of the first day of the pay month and the last day of the preceding month can qualify for CAIP. The following conditions must also be met during this period:
