The period of validity of work permits after studies will be extended

The Minister of Immigration said that the date had been pushed back by almost four months.

Sean Fraser wrote on his Twitter account that holders of post-graduation work permits (PGWP) that expired after September 20, 2021, through December 31, 2022, will have the option to renew them. Previously, extensions only applied to those PGWPs expiring between January 1 and December 31, 2022.

"This special measure represents the potential to grow the economy and allow more graduates to make Canada their home. Thank you to everyone who worked with my team to expand this program, and to the international students and graduate students who continue to choose Canada," the minister wrote.

Foreign students who have completed their studies can obtain an open work permit for up to three years. The new measure provides for an additional one-time extension of such permit for up to an additional 1 year 6 months.

Despite the statements of the Minister of Immigration and the fact that the extension of the PGWP has been known since April of this year, no information about the procedure for applying the new conditions has not yet appeared.
