New Brunswick announces the launch of a new immigration pathway

The Canadian province will accept truckers as part of a skilled worker flow program.

New Brunswick's candidate program aims to grow the transportation industry in the province and attract highly skilled truck drivers. The new immigration stream is designed specifically for truck drivers.

Employers who want to hire foreign workers will have to apply for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and receive a positive labour market impact assessment (LMIA). Once the employer is satisfied that the hired employee can safely operate a heavy-duty vehicle and meets provincial qualifications, the employee will be eligible for nomination as part of the New Brunswick Transport Truck Driver Flow.

The employee must meet the following requirements:

  • have the intention of becoming a provincial resident;
  • have 24 months of experience, including at least 6 months of continuous employment in New Brunswick;
  • have a job offer;
  • the salary offered to him must match the wage rates in New Brunswick for that occupation;
  • the application must be accompanied by an Employer Information Form (NBPNP-004).

In order for an applicant to receive permanent resident status, his or her application under the new skilled worker stream in New Brunswick must go through 2 stages of approval. The application can be submitted online. The processing time is set on a case-by-case basis.
