Province of Manitoba establishes Immigration Advisory Board
The main task is to keep immigrants in the province.
The provincial program Manitoba nominated 6,275 people in 2021, a record number of candidates since the program's inception in 1998. In total, more than 165,000 people have immigrated to Manitoba over the years.
Only 21% of applicants in 2021 settled outside the province's largest city, Winnipeg, despite the pre-pandemic pilot program of immigration to northern and rural areas. The most frequent settlements for newcomers were in the following cities:
-
Nepava;
-
Steinbach;
-
Winkler;
-
Thompson;
-
Portage la Prairie.
Service sector professionals came to Manitoba the most in 2021:
-
drivers;
-
cashiers in cafes and canteens;
-
controllers in catering establishments;
-
cooks.
