A record month in Canadian immigration

A record month in Canadian immigration

The country is approaching its annual target for the number of new immigrants.

In September 2021, Citizenship and Immigration Canada welcomed 45,000 new immigrants. This is an all-time record in Canada's modern history. Before the pandemic, the country averaged between 25,000 and 35,000 new permanent residents a month.

Such figures show that Canada intends to meet its plan to welcome 401,000 new immigrants this year. So far, the country has accepted 267,000 people. Accordingly, there are 134,000 more to reach the target. In order to reach that figure, we need to continue to keep the target of around 45,000 immigrants per month.

In February, Canada held a record selection process for Express Entry, inviting more than 27,000 candidates. Given the time it takes to apply for permanent residency and for the Department of Immigration to process this application, the selected candidates will receive their permanent residency by the end of the year.

In addition, applications for temporary immigration streams, which should call for 90,000 people, will close on November 5. The ministry has set a target of about 40,000 applications to be processed by the end of this year. Another 30,000 applicants have been selected under the family reunification program.

In addition, there are selections for provincial immigration programs as the plan for invitations through the Express Entry system is already fulfilled. All of these factors suggest that the 401,000 immigrant target for Canada is realistic.
