Canada may start vaccinating children

Health Canada is analyzing data from Phizer vaccine trials in children.

On October 1, Health Canada received data on the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 5 to 11 years.

According to a Phizer spokesperson, this is the first step toward official approval of the vaccine for children. A licence application is expected to be submitted in mid-October.

Previously, the company had released the results of a clinical trial. Children showed a positive immune response to ⅔ of an adult dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This allowed Phizer and its partner BioNTech to declare the vaccine safe for children on September 20.

For her part, Health Minister Patti Haidu said at a press conference on October 1 that the government would expedite all applications for coronavirus vaccine for children. This is due to an increase in cases of the disease in children.
