EU opens borders to Canadians

Who can fly in and what are the requirements?

On 30 June, the authorities of the European Union states decided to add Canada to the list of "safe countries" whose residents are allowed to come to the EU for a good reason. The changes will take effect in the coming days.

In addition to Canada, citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Jordan, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, Qatar and Saudi Arabia will be allowed entry. It is also recommended that EU countries gradually lift restrictions on tourists from Albania, Australia, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Northern Macedonia, Rwanda, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the USA.

Although EU borders are now open to Canadian tourists, some countries may require travellers to test negative for COVID-19. In addition, as of July 1, it is only possible to fly to 33 European countries with a "health passport," which contains information about either a negative test or vaccination. The list of countries for which passports are required includes 27 EU member states and 6 neighboring countries: Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland.
