Almost all Canadians want to be vaccinated

It is likely that the country will be able to reach the target of 75% of immunized residents.

The Angus Reid Institute, a non-profit organization that studies the opinions of Canadians, conducted a new survey to find out how high the demand for COVID-19 vaccination is in Canada.

The data show that nearly 9 out of 10 Canadians are now either vaccinated or want to be vaccinated. The number of people who are hesitant or who want to wait to vaccinate has dropped to its lowest level since the institute began tracking information last summer. Just 9% of Canadians say they definitely won't get vaccinated.

Uncertainty about vaccination was highest in Alberta and Saskatchewan at 18% of those surveyed. Fifty-seven per cent of Canadians believe the country should give equal priority to both first— and second-dose vaccinations. About one-quarter responded that first-dose vaccinations should be the priority for now.

Confirming the results of the survey is how quickly Canada's immunization program is moving forward. Between July 12 and 15, 1.2 million people received a second dose of the vaccine.

In addition, while Canada was previously criticized for the slow pace of vaccination, more than half of respondents now believe the federal government has done a good job. At the beginning of March, only a quarter of respondents felt this way.
