Police pulled over a car with a 12-year-old driver

He was with his intoxicated father.

Had it not been for vigilant residents, there may have been an accident involving a 12-year-old child who was driving a car and his drunken father in the York, Ontario region.

On May 1, a 911 hotline received a call about a drunken man putting his 12-year-old son behind the wheel and sitting in the passenger seat. When the caller approached the car and asked the boy how old he was, the father became agitated, got behind the wheel and drove away. However, they were soon stopped by the police.

Officers later shared DVR footage that captured the man's arrest. A test confirmed he was intoxicated. He was charged with DUI and child endangerment.

Each year, 3,500 drunk drivers are reported to the 911 line. Police say each call can prevent serious accidents on the road.
