What

And when might the situation change?

Dominic LeBlanc, Canada's intergovernmental affairs minister, said the federal government does not yet have enough reliable scientific data to make a decision to open the border with the United States.

The US-Canadian border has actually been closed for more than a year, and until there are predictions about the development of the pandemic in the coming months and the impact of vaccination, it is too early to talk about any opening. At the same time, the Minister noted that vaccination has helped to curb the rise in the disease.

"We will need to discuss the possibility of opening the borders with both the American side and our provinces and territories," he said.

LeBlanc also voiced hope that things would more or less get better in the summer and people would finally be able to travel without problems at least within the country, but stressed that the closure or opening of internal borders is under the control of the provinces and territories themselves.

New Brunswick Prime Minister, Blaine Higgs, has suggested that if enough U.S. vaccines are delivered to Canada in time, the border could be opened for the summer.
