Toronto police busted an underground gambling house

For 14 people, the unbridled fun ended with serious charges.

A press release from Toronto Police said more than a dozen people were charged Friday, Jan. 29, with violating existing laws. The charges were filed after 14 people were found in an underground gambling house at Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street West.

The police received a call about an armed man and immediately went on the call. However, when they arrived, they discovered something more than that — a gambling house in the basement.

In addition to the gambling participants, who at the same time violated the applicable self-isolation ordinance, the police found a very large amount of cash. It was handed over to officers of the Financial Crimes Unit

It is noted that the 14 defendants range in age from 30 to 62 years. After such "rest" they are to appear in court on 25 March 2021.

According to police, the investigation is ongoing.

Back in September, York Regional Police closed down another illegal gambling house. At the time, police said 11 weapons, $1 million CAD in cash and $1.5 million CAD worth of alcohol were seized from the house. A total of 33 people were charged.
