Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot: Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba

Those wishing to immigrate to Canada can apply for permanent residency in the municipality of Altona/Rhineland.

The municipality of Altona/Rhineland consists of two towns: Altona and Rhineland, located in the province of Manitoba, 100 km from Winnipeg. The city participates in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, which allows foreign professionals to settle in communities with a labour shortage.

Applicants must receive a community recommendation. For this, you must meet the requirements of the immigration program and the requirements of the town where you plan to move.

Federal requirements

All applicants interested in applying for a recommendation from Altona/Rhineland must meet the requirements of the federal government:

  • 1 year of work experience within the last 3 years;
  • high school education;
  • language proficiency at the level appropriate to the profession;
  • sufficient amount of money;
  • job offer in a community.

Altona/Rhineland community requirements

Altona/Rhineland uses a point system to select applicants. Applicants must score as many points as possible. Points are awarded as follows:

Criterion Points
The candidate has received a job offer in the agriculture or manufacturing sector 20
The candidate has received a job offer in the construction, food processing, or financial services sector 10
A job offer is received from an employer who has been doing business within Altona/Rhineland for at least 10 years or has invested at least CA$250,000 within the community 10
The employer will provide the candidate with a workplace mentor for 6 months or more 5
The candidate has received a job offer in a NOC TEER 1, 2, 3, or 4 occupation (skilled, trades, and low-skilled occupations) 10
The candidate has received a job offer in a NOC TEER 5 occupation (unskilled occupations) 5
The candidate has a valid driver's license from their home country 5
The candidate has lived as an adult (18 years old or more) in a community of up to 10,000 people located within 1 hour of a major city 5
The candidate has a close relative living in Altona/Rhineland (parent, sibling, child) 20
The candidate has a friend or distant relative living in Altona/Rhineland (grandparent, uncle, aunt, cousin, nephew, niece) 10
The candidate has previously visited Altona/Rhineland and stayed at least 1 week in the municipality 5
The candidate has a spouse/common-law partner with an education in one of the following fields: agriculture, construction, education, financial services, food processing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, manufacturing, social services, retail, technology, transportation 10
The candidate has a spouse/common-law partner with work experience in one of the following fields: agriculture, construction, education, financial services, food processing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, manufacturing, social services, retail, technology, transportation 10
The candidate is between 25 and 38 years of age 10

How to apply

Applicants need to create an online profile on a platform operated by SEED, a local economic development corporation. The platform allows you to find job postings and apply to those that match your qualifications. You can also upload your CV to be reviewed by SEED and shared with local employers.
