Immigration to Nova Scotia for physicians
The Physician stream allows physicians whose candidacy has been approved by local health agencies to obtain a permanent residency in Nova Scotia.
The Physician stream of Nova Scotia’s provincial program helps the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and the Isaac Walton Killam Health Centre (IWK) to hire general practitioners, family physicians, and specialist physicians for work in the province.
Eligibility
To be able to immigrate through the Physician stream, you must meet the following requirements:
- obtain an approved opportunity from NSHA or IWK representatives. This document must indicate your eligibility for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NS and the right to apply for privileges with NSHA and IWK;

- have sufficient proficiency in English or French to fulfill job responsibilities.
The stream is only available for three professions:
- general practitioners and family physicians;
- specialists in clinical and laboratory medicine;
- specialists in surgery.
