Immigration to Manitoba for masters and PhD graduates

The International Education – Graduate Internship category of Manitoba's provincial program allows graduates of master's and PhD programs who have completed an internship to obtain a permanent residency.

The International Education — Graduate Internship stream is for those who have received a master's or doctoral degree from a Manitoba university and have completed an internship with the Mitacs organization. A job offer in this program is not required.

Eligibility

You must meet the following requirements to apply for immigration:

  • complete a master's or doctoral degree within the last 3 years at a Manitoba post-secondary institution;
  • demonstrate proficiency in English or French at level 7 on the CLB scale (above average);
  • complete a Mitacs internship in either the Accelerate or the Elevate program;
  • live in Manitoba at the time of application;
  • show enough money to support yourself and your family members.

Settlement funds

You must show money in your account for the first 6 months after you receive your permanent residency. The requirement is waived if you are already working for a local employer at the time of application.

How to apply

If you are interested in immigrating to Manitoba through the Graduate Internship stream, you can register on the provincial "Expression of Interest" system. Successful candidates receive invitations in special draws. Unlike other Manitoba programs, there are no passing scores in draws for graduates.
