Immigration to the Northwest Territories for entrepreneurs
People who want to do business in the region can immigrate through the Business stream.
The Business stream of the Northwest Territories program is designed for entrepreneurs who want to start a new business or buy an existing business in the region.
Eligibility
To apply for the Business stream, you must meet the following requirements:
- be able to invest in the business:
- $300,000 CAD if the business is located in Yellowknife;
- $150,000 CAD if the business is outside of Yellowknife;
- possess a net worth of:
- $500,000 CAD if the business is located in Yellowknife;
- $250,000 CAD if the business is outside of Yellowknife;
- own 33.3% of the business if the investment is less than $1 million CAD;
- provide a business plan;
- make an exploratory visit and be interviewed by representatives of the Northwest Territories;
- demonstrate proficiency in English or French at level 4 on the CLB scale;
- have the experience or education that allows running a successful business.
How to apply
If you are interested in immigrating through the Business stream, you should create an account on the official website of the Northwest Territories. You can also contact the region directly.
Representatives of the territory will determine your suitability after a business visit and personal interview. If approved, you will sign an agreement with the region to do business for 2 years. At the end of this period, you will be able to apply for permanent residency.
