Renewals of entrepreneurial immigration streams to the province came into effect.

Quebec's official website has reminded that yet another change to the province's own immigration program has come into effect. This time it's about three streams for entrepreneurs: for businessmen, investors and self-employed.

As of January 1, 2024, the changes announced on November 8, 2023 will come into legal force. Permanent residence candidates applying under the entrepreneurship streams must now attach a certificate proving the required level of French language proficiency. According to Quebec's own scale, this level must be at least 7 — that is, above average.

A similar reform has affected all economic flows of immigration to Quebec. The local immigration ministry considers these changes an improvement, as they should facilitate the integration of newcomers into the business community and ensure their active participation in the new region of residence. A day earlier, on January 3, the privilege of not having to speak French was waived for job applicants.

But there is some positive news for those looking to move to Quebec: as of January 1 of this year, an option for candidates going with the investor stream to obtain an open work permit became available.
