Cambrian College: a university that makes it easy to get a permanent residence in Canada

First-class education in Canada with affordable cost of living and subsequent easy immigration.

Studying at a Canadian college is an excellent choice for an international student. Canadian education is considered one of the best in the world, and studying in the country opens the way for foreigners to further employment and immigration.

Among our partner universities there is a college that, in addition to modern and quality education, offers international students a life in a small inexpensive city and a reliable path to permanent residence. So, let us introduce you to Cambrian College.

Cambrian College

Cambrian College is a public college of applied arts and technology located in the city of Sudbury in northern Ontario. Location is a very significant plus for the college. We will tell you about it separately.

Cambrian College is the largest college in northern Ontario. Over the years, the college has educated more than 60,000 students. The college is always developing and annually accepts thousands of international students from dozens of countries. For more than 10 years it has been among the top 50 research colleges in Canada. In 2020, Cambrian College took an honorable 18th place in the ranking.

Programs

Programs

Education at Cambrian College combines cutting-edge teaching methods, modern classrooms, laboratories and workshops, plenty of internships and faculty who have hands-on experience in the field in which they teach.

The college collaborates with other institutions such as Seneca College and Lambton College, and has partnerships with Cisco and Microsoft allow students in the IT programs to gain knowledge and experience from industry leaders.

Cambrian College has about 90 post-secondary and graduate programs.

After school programs are divided into 9 areas:

  • Health Sciences, Nursing, and Emergency Services;
  • Skilled Trades Training;
  • Engineering Technology;
  • Creative Arts, Music, & Design;
  • Community Services;
  • Law and Justice;
  • Business and Information Technology;
  • Safety and Environmental Studies;
  • General Studies.

The strongest areas can be considered business, medicine, engineering and everything related to IT. Students of skilled trades also benefit a lot. According to statistics, welders, assembly welders and heavy equipment mechanics in northern Ontario earn more on average than the rest of the country.

Programs

Graduate programs are designed for those who have already graduated from a college or university and want to gain additional knowledge and skills in their own or a related field. Cambrian College has the following areas of such programs:

  • Business and Information Technology;
  • Community Services;
  • Health Sciences;
  • Law and Justice;
  • Safety and Environmental Studies.

The study usually lasts for 2-3 semesters.

Some college programs include co-op. This means that for part of the training (usually one semester) the student completes a paid internship, gaining professional experience and reimbursing part of the tuition costs.

Here are examples of programs with working practices:

Bachelor of Business Administration 3 years (6 semesters) 1 semester

Cost of training

Cost of training

Tuition at Cambrian College for post-secondary programs costs an average of CAD 16,900 per year. There are more expensive options — for example, a bachelor's degree in Business Administration will cost almost CAD 19,800 per year. Postgraduate programs are usually cheaper — their price starts at CAD 14,300 per year.

You will be able to reimburse part of your tuition fees. Students are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during their studies and up to 40 hours a week during vacations. Plus work experience if it is part of the program. The minimum wage in Ontario for students is CAD 15.60 per hour.

And that's not all. For the 2022-23 academic year, the college paid out more than CAD 1 million in scholarships and grants to its students. The college allocated CAD 150,000 of that to scholarships for freshmen, including for academic achievements in high school.

Student life

Sudbury's pros

Of the 5,500 students who attend Cambrian College, 2,100 are international students, and the number is growing every year.

Students may live in dormitories, residence halls, or rent an apartment. Cambrian College's dormitories and residence halls are comfortable. For example, students may share a one-bathroom, two-bedroom unit on the top floor. The first floor will have a shared kitchen for several such pairs of students. The college and dormitories are secured 24 hours a day.

Cambrian College operates a 24-hour library and has areas where students can get coffee, snacks, socialize, and prepare for classes. There are also exercise and fitness rooms, and students can play soccer and volleyball or just come to college games to support their college mates in competition.

Sudbury's pros

The college's main campus is located in Sudbury, the largest city in northern Ontario. It is a fairly small city with a population of about 165,000. It gives the impression of a very cozy town with lots of vegetation and scenic views without seeming like a "village".

In Sudbury you can feel like a resident of the city without suffering from constant traffic jams, large number of residents, endless city noise, competition for every job and huge prices. If you compare the cost of renting a home in Sudbury and in Toronto, it will be cheaper in Sudbury by almost half.

Immigration prospects

Immigration prospects

Sudbury's job and immigration prospects are a separate plus.

Upon graduation from Cambrian College, graduates receive a post-graduate work permit for one to three years, depending on the program of study. Your job prospects after graduating from Cambrian College are promising: 85% of graduates find a job within six months of graduation, and 76% of graduates find a job without leaving northern Ontario.

The City of Sudbury itself opens the door for students to simplified permanent residency in Canada. The city participates in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot. The requirements in this program are simplified, so Cambrian College graduates can expect easier immigration.

College graduates can also get more points in Ontario's immigrant program if they decide to stay in Sudbury to work after college. For example, if you find a job in Toronto after college, you will lose extra points in the program.

But still, if you graduated from Cambrian College, but Sudbury is "too small" for you or you can't find a job in your field of study, Ontario is the most populated and second largest province in Canada. A professional with a degree in almost any field can find a job here.
