Immigrants planning to move to Canada will get even more support

The IRCC continues to fund immigration pre-arrival services.

As you know, attracting immigrants to the country is one of the main objectives of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Immigrants make up a very high percentage of the country's population and make a crucial contribution to population growth. Canadian leaders are very aware that immigrants need help and support. And the help they get before they come to Canada can be more important than the support they get after they arrive.

To make sure people planning to immigrate get that support, the IRCC in May announced an investment program for companies helping people with immigration. This week they announced a financial investment in ISANS — Immigration Services Association Nova Scotia. And the Canadian government didn't stop at this investment alone.

President of the Treasury Board Mona Fortier on behalf of Minister of Immigration Sean Fraser announced that Collège La Cité and Colleges and Institutes Canada will receive a CAD 10.5 million investment. This funding is to be used to help immigrants before they arrive in Canada.

Fortier stated: “Ensuring that immigrants are able to receive high-quality and reliable information results in better decision-making and an easier transition to Canada. With our investment and continuing support, Collège La Cité will be able to provide more individuals with services such as pre-departure assistance and integration programs once they arrive in Canada. The success of newcomers relies on Canada’s continuing commitment to provide state-of-the-art accessible services.”

Collège La Cité and Colleges and Institutes Canada provide services online and in-person to those planning to move to Canada. Services include informing the prospective immigrant about upcoming jobs in Canada and the workplace, assistance in developing "soft skills," and employment counselling. Francophone College Ottawa also supports French-speaking immigrants planning to move to Canada and helps those who have just arrived adapt to the country.
