The second season of the cult TV series "The Last of Us" will be filmed in Vancouver.

We'll tell you why Vancouver is called the Hollywood of the North and why filmmakers love Canada.

The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic series on HBO. It can confidently be called a cult classic: critics have recognized it as the best television adaptation of a video game, it has been watched by hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide, and on the website Rotten Tomatoes, it has a rating of 96%. Instagram is filled with memes featuring actor Pedro Pascal, who plays the main character.

As fans of the 2013 video game know, much of The Last of Us Part II takes place in the Pacific Northwest. HBO has not yet revealed plot details or a filming start date, but they have announced that the picturesque city of Vancouver will serve as a location.

“We’re incredibly excited to have one of the largest shows on television choose to film in Vancouver,” Mayor Ken Sim explains, according to Global News. “Vancouver is Hollywood North – this announcement is a demonstration of our City’s continued strength in the film and television sector. As we look to the future, I’m confident that we will see even more productions decide to make their home here.”

Prem Gill, CEO of Creative BC, believes that this news showcases the competitiveness of British Columbia's film industry. He says that Vancouver was chosen for its stunning natural scenery and the professionalism of its filming crews.

Canada is a popular filming location for movies, especially for Hollywood productions. The country has a well-developed film and television industry with sophisticated infrastructure, experienced production crews, and diverse landscapes that can substitute for various locations around the world. Additionally, Canadian authorities offer tax incentives and rebates that help filmmakers lower the costs of producing movies.

Filmmakers love Vancouver for its scenic beauty and excellent filming facilities. Here are a few examples of popular movies and TV shows that were filmed there:

  • Twilight Saga: Eclipse;
  • Deadpool;
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine;
  • The X-Files;
  • Supernatural;
  • Riverdale.
