10,000 new jobs created in Canada
Unemployment rates drop and November records. Statistics Canada reported that many major sectors of the economy added jobs.
Statistics Canada announced that industries such as finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing, manufacturing, information, culture and recreation added thousands of jobs. The monthly report said the number of new job openings in November was enough to marginally but slightly lower the unemployment rate to 5.1% from the 5.2% that it was in October.
An interesting fact is that employment among those 25 to 54 years of age increased by 38,000 ( 0.3%) in November, the third consecutive monthly increase. Most of the increase in November was among women ( 25,000; 0.4%), giving a record-high 81.6% employment rate among working-age women.
Among very recent immigrants — those admitted to Canada in the previous five years — the employment rate for middle-aged women was 69.7%, also the highest for November since 2006.
The biggest part of the seats was created in Quebec and Ontario — 28,000 and 22,600 respectively — but the surge was offset by declines in five other provinces, including Alberta and British Columbia.
Vic Fedeli, Minister of economic development, job creation and trade, issued a statement: "Our government continues to work around the clock to strengthen the economy and attract investment that will create good-paying jobs for Ontarians. Domestic and international companies are looking for jurisdictions with a highly skilled workforce, a world-class innovation ecosystem and a competitive business environment to help them grow, all of which Ontario offers. ... In November, we welcomed L&T Technology Services and Snowflake Engineering to Ontario, two international technology companies that will create a total of 400 well-paying jobs. We continue to see new global companies investing in Ontario every day, and we welcome the many opportunities these investments will create."
The ever-increasing number of jobs in the provinces makes them even more attractive for immigration.
