Quebec makes it easier to hire temporary immigrant workers

Researchers say that while unemployment is low, Quebec has a record number of job openings.

In early 2022, Quebec allowed employers to hire not 10% temporary workers, but 20%. This change only affected businesses in the areas most affected by the pandemic.

On May 24, 2022, another measure designed to attract more overseas workers to the province will take effect. Employers who look abroad for skilled trades in the NOC skill level C classification are now exempt from some of the requirements for finding and hiring foreign workers.

Skill Level C is school education and/or vocational training. For example, this category includes butchers, waiters.

Employers, even with simplified labour market impact assessment (LMIA) processing, are required to apply for it. But they don't have to advertise the position or prove that they made every effort to hire a Canadian resident for the position.
