Province of Saskatchewan launches new immigration stream

The goal is to attract highly qualified technicians.

On March 7, the Province of Saskatchewan announced the launch of a new Tech Talent Pathway stream under the provincial immigration program. Those applicants who are already accepted into the Express Entry pool can also apply for this stream, and their applications will be processed by the Department of Immigration first — the waiting period will be six months or less. Such applicants will need to provide a valid Express Entry profile number and applicant code.

The following professions are eligible to participate in the Tech Talent Pathway program:

The requirements for candidates are as follows:

  • an offer of employment in a suitable profession in the technology sector;
  • a minimum level of English or French 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) if the applicant is not working in Saskatchewan at the time of application, or level 7 if the applicant is applying through Express Entry;
  • at least one year of professional experience in the past five years or six months of full-time employment in Saskatchewan;
  • higher education
  • meet the criteria for obtaining a professional engineer's license in Saskatchewan (this item applies to electrical, electronic, computer and software engineers).
