Results of the new immigration programme
The province spoke about the invitations sent by the recently launched stream.
Newfoundland and Labrador has released the first information on invitations to the new "priority skills" program, which was launched earlier this year. Between June and October, the province called 663 candidates to immigrate in a number of in-demand occupations.
In June, the region targeted medics. 381 invitations were sent out, 224 of which went to licensed nurses. The remaining invitations were distributed as follows:
- caregivers — 82 invitations;
- practicing nurses — 57 invitations;
- clinical psychologists — 10;
- medical physicists — 5;
- radiation medicine technologists — 3.
In September and October, the province gave preference to IT workers. Of the 22 invitations in September, 10 went to software developers, 4 each to Python developers and cloud developers, 2 each to artificial intelligence designers and web developers.
In October, 260 people were invited, most of whom (205) are also software developers. The remaining invitations are distributed as follows:
- web developers — 11;
- cloud developers — 9;
- Python developers — 8;
- I&D designers — 7;
- bioinformatics — 5;
- UI/UX developers — 5;
- NET developers — 5;
- data analytics — 3;
- safety professionals — 2.
The Priority Skills Programme is notable for its low requirements and the fact that the candidate does not need to look for a job in the province on his/her own. You can get a work contract right during the selection process, as local employers have access to your application once you have applied. Candidates who are not selected for permanent residency may come to Newfoundland and Labrador on a work visa and subsequently immigrate through other programs.
