The U.S. has opened its borders with Canada
The Canadian government assessed this as a step towards a return to normalcy.
Beginning Nov. 8, the U.S. is opening the land border to all Canadian travelers, provided they are completely vaccinated. The conditions apply to both land and air travelers.
According to White House spokesman Kevin Munoz, Canadians who have received two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be considered fully vaccinated in the United States. However, those Canadians who have been mixed vaccinated will also be allowed to enter. The US does not approve of vaccine blending, but recognizes that since this practice has been more common in other countries, it may be acceptable and be considered for full vaccination.
As Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, said on 13 October, the governments of Canada and the Americas had been working closely together since the pandemic began. And it was only because residents followed public-health advice that the borders reopened.
However, the Minister clarified that despite this easing, the pandemic continued. The government will monitor the COVID-19 situation and the observance of precautionary measures to ensure safety in the country.
In addition, Bill Blair reminded that as of October 30 travel in Canada only fully vaccinated Canadians will be able to travel by plane or train.
