Canada imposes new bans on the unvaccinated

The government is promising tough measures for those who have not been vaccinated.

In September, Canada opened its borders to vaccinated tourists. Now, the government is imposing additional restrictions on those who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19.

From October 30, 2021, only people who are fully vaccinated will be able to travel by air, sea and rail in Canada and abroad. This applies to anyone 12 years of age or older. Those who have received their first dose of vaccine will be able to use the listed modes of transportation, but only until November 30 and with a negative PCR test for COVID-19.

The only exceptions will be for those who travel for emergency reasons and those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical contraindications. Transport sector employees will also be required to vaccinate, otherwise they will not be allowed to work.

The government says mandatory vaccination will help reduce the risk of COVID-19 and new outbreaks of the virus. Violations of the measures, such as providing false information about one's vaccination status, could result in fines of up to $25,000 CAD.

Canada is currently developing a digital vaccination confirmation that will be valid across the country. So far, vaccination passports are only available in specific provinces.
