Companies across Canada complain of worker shortages
Many of them are willing to consider candidates from abroad.
Almost 70% of Canadian companies are having trouble finding qualified professionals, and more than 50% are willing to look abroad for people. This is evidenced by a survey conducted by the international auditing company KPMG.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced employers to adapt to the new realities and move all work to an online format, but now they are finding it difficult to find the right people for such activities. Almost 80% of the companies surveyed responded that they need more specialists who are "friendly" with digital technology.
KPMG representatives said that shortage of workers is the main threat to business today.
The researchers compiled the following statistics:
- 89% of employers invest in training and development of their staff;
- 79% of companies have sent employees to work remotely, and they need more IT savvy people;
- 69% of companies plan to hire more staff over the next 3 years;
- 68% have difficulties in hiring employees with the knowledge and qualities necessary to develop the company;
- 52% of businesses are unsure if they will find suitable workers in Canada and are considering hiring foreigners;
- 24% said that they primarily need information and network security specialists;
- 20% of employers need data analysts the most.
Earlier, another study by a Canadian university found that employers in Atlantic Canadian provinces are severely understaffed.
After a year of working in Canada, permanent resident status is available through the federal immigration program for professionals with Canadian work experience as well as through a number of provincial programs.
