New Brunswick imposes strict restrictions on those who come to the province

Including quarantine hotels.

The New Brunswick government has announced new restrictions for those returning to the province. They went into effect on Saturday, April 24.

Restrictions on entry

Currently, you can only enter the province for a valid reason. These include living or working in New Brunswick, visiting a doctor, travelling through the province to another destination, etc.

All visitors to New Brunswick must register their border crossing online or by calling 1-833-948-2800.

Travelers

These rules apply to those returning to New Brunswick from a tourist trip, relocating to the province, or visiting for work or business purposes (except for shift workers, truck drivers, and those who regularly cross the border because of work).

Upon arrival in New Brunswick, travellers must undergo a mandatory 7-day quarantine at an approved hotel at their own expense. The hotels will be located throughout the province. Authorities cite an approximate cost of $200 CAD per day.

The COVID-19 test should be taken on day 5, and as soon as a negative result is obtained (tentatively on day 7), self-isolation can continue at home, but on the condition that no other family members are there. The total quarantine period will be 14 days. On the 10th day, the test must be repeated.

Travellers must cross the border in their own car or by taxi. Family pick-ups and journeys with fellow travellers are not allowed.

Workers

Shift workers, truck drivers and those who cross the border regularly for work purposes must complete a 14-day self-isolation at home upon arrival in New Brunswick. In doing so, they must minimize contact with family members living with them.

Students

Students who return to the province will also have to undergo quarantine in a hotel, but at government expense.

The restrictions do not depend on whether or not the visitor is vaccinated. The provincial government will be reviewing the measures in the coming weeks and may make additional edits. The minimum fine for a violation will be $580.5 CAD. At the time the new restrictions were announced, the province of New Brunswick had 16 cases of infection in a 24-hour period.
