Hotel quarantine: everything you need to know
We tell you all the details: which hotels you can book a room at, how to do it and how much it costs to stay after you arrive in Canada.
Starting February 22, 2021, foreign travellers entering Canada will be required to stay in one of the designated hotels to undergo a 3-day quarantine. It has now been revealed where travellers will be able to settle down.
Hotels are located in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec City, as these are the four provinces that host international travellers.
Alberta
- Acclaim Hotel — $611 CAD for three days.
- Marriott Calgary Airport — $1,272 CAD for three days + taxes.
British Columbia
- Westin Wall Centre — $1,827 CAD for three days per person and $3,955 CAD for a family of four (this is the cheapest option for families).
- Fairmont — $1,635 CAD for three days per person and $2,356 CAD for double occupancy.
- Days Inn by Wyndham
- Radisson
- Four Points by Sheraton
Ontario
- Alt Hotel Pearson Airport — $339 CAD per day.
- Four Points by Sheraton and Element Toronto Airport — $1,089.41 CAD for three days.
- Holiday Inn Toronto International Airport.
- Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Toronto International Airport — $319 CAD per day.
Quebec
- Aloft Montreal Airport.
- Crowne Plaza Montreal Airport.
- Holiday Inn Express and Suites Montreal Airport.
- Montreal Airport Marriott In-Terminal.
The Government of Canada has stressed that visitors will be able to choose their own hotel.
Hotel accommodation will be paid for by the traveller. The room rate includes all services and facilities that the hotel must provide for the quarantine period.
How to book a hotel
To book accommodation on the Government of Canada website, it is recommended that you call the following telephone numbers: (toll free from North America) and — call from other countries.
Staff are on the lines every day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Ottawa time. You will be able to make special enquiries, get information about pet quarantine and deal with any other problems. You will need to provide the following information over the phone:
- last name and first name;
- date of birth;
- the floor;
- date and city of arrival;
- special requests or needs;
- method of payment;
- if you have pets with you;
- email address;
- the hotel where you want to stay.
The government will then send you a confirmation email within four hours of booking.
Travellers are also advised to use the app to show the availability of their reservations if required.
How to get to the hotel
Most passengers will be transported directly to the hotel by shuttle bus. At the same time it is not forbidden to use your own car if it is parked close to the airport and provided that you do not stop for petrol and shops.
The complete process for entering Canada
- All travelers must provide proof of a negative PCR test result, which must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to departure of the flight to Canada.
- Before flying to Canada, travelers should call (numbers listed above) to book a three-day stay in a quarantine hotel at their own expense.
- Travellers can only arrive at Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver airports.
- You need to download the ArriveCan application and fill in all the necessary information.
- All travelers take a PCR test upon arrival at the airport.
- All non-stop travelers depart from the airport directly to the pre-booked quarantine hotel.
- Travellers will be released from quarantine on the third day if they test negative. If they test positive, they will be transferred to a government quarantine centre.
- Travelers who test negative can go home, where they must complete the remaining 14 days of quarantine.
- Travellers will need to take another PCR test towards the end of quarantine.
