Canada wants to move the immigration process entirely online
The country intends to reach a new level and compete for immigrants from all over the world.
"My vision for the future of our immigration system is that it will be completely virtual. Every step and process will be integrated into the online system so that we will be the envy of the world," said Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino.
According to the Minister of Immigration, Canada is already a world leader in the level of online service provided to immigrants.
"In an increasingly virtual world, we are leading the way, especially when it comes to our immigration system," he said in an interview. — As far as I know, we are the only country that has started holding citizenship ceremonies online, and now we have also moved the testing of candidates to remote mode.
Last year on Canada Day, the country held its first-ever virtual citizenship ceremony. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was held specifically for health professionals.
According to the Minister of Immigration, Canada is using its Express Entry system and other online services to help Newcomers settle into their new communities and get the knowledge, services and support they need.
Although immigration plummeted last year due to travel restrictions and closed borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada has raised immigration targets to attract more immigrants than ever.
The federal government wants to welcome more than 1.2 million newcomers between 2021 and 2023. Canada is expecting 401,000 new permanent residents this year, 411,000 next year and 421,000 in 2023.
